President Brent Phillips B.A. (Criminology) e - brent.phillips@deafsports.org.au Sport is undoubtedly my biggest passion, and this is reflected by my involvement in sport at various levels. I currently work for the Physical Activity Unit at Sport & Recreation Victoria as Senior Project Officer. Previously, I was Senior Sport Liaison Officer for the Melbourne 2005 Deaflympic Games where I managed several functional areas, including four sports, Anti Doping and Games-Wide Results, to name a few. I was Manager for the Victorian Council of Deaf People and also worked at the Equal Opportunity Commission of Victoria. I am in my late-20s and have lived in Melbourne all my life, apart from two years in the United Kingdom on a working holiday visa. I am a third-generation Deaf person in my family. I was recently captain of the seconds XI for the Melbourne Deaf Cricket Club, following in my father and grandfathers' footsteps. Playing cricket takes up my summer, while watching my beloved Western Bulldogs play in the AFL takes up my winter! John Lovett (former DSA & Deaflympics President) was behind my decision to barrack for the Bulldogs! My passion for sports has taken me to many places worldwide - I've been a spectator at Olympic, Commonwealth and Deaflympic Games, and one of my not-so-well known life ambitions is to visit every Olympic city - so far I have been to 15 out of the 20 Olympic cities. As Events Director at DSA, I aim to see Australia attract international deaf sport events on a regular basis as part of the M2005 legacy. On a national level, I would like to see streamlined individual sport championships and professionally organised quadrennial Australian Deaf Games that serves as a platform for selection for the Deaflympic Games. In addition, I would like to see DSA increase our revenue through the staging of professionally organised events which will increase our profile and further enhance our ability to attract sponsors. |
