It has come to light recently that a video distributed by the H3 Network during the ICSD Congress and Winter Deaflympic Games held in Russia claimed that Deaf Sports Australia withdrew from the Congress and boycotted future Deaflympic Games.
We would like to advise that these claims by H3 Nation are misleading. The fact is Deaf Sports Australia did withdraw from participating at the ICSD Congress due to concerns regarding the governance and lack of communication by the ISCD Board.
Below is a link of a video which we originally distributed to ICSD Members clarifying our position regarding our withdrawal from the ICSD Congress. Please note the announcement was made by Alex Jones, a DSA Board Member in International Sign Language.
Below is a link presented by H3 Network which is misleading and different to what DSA provided:
Phil Harper, President of Deaf Sports Australia has provided clarification in regards to the video. Below are two videos, one in Auslan and the other in International Sign Language. Please click on the link to view Phil Harper's statement.
Below is a transcript of the video:
Hello, my name is Phil Harper, I am the President of Deaf Sports Australia
I would like to clarify in regards to the video distributed by H3 Network regarding an announcement made by DSA which was incorrect. The video was distributed after the ICSD Congress that was held in Russia. The video announced that DSA withdrew from the Congress and future Deaflympic Games - Summer and Winter
This is to clarify that DSA only withdrew from the Congress, and WILL participate at future Deaflympic Games
DSA will also send a Team to the upcoming Asia Pacific Games for the Deaf being held in Taiwan, in October
