Home > Members & Community IntroductionThe Members & Community portfolio is responsible for the efficient and smooth running of all aspects and issues that relate to DSA's members and the general community. Deaf Sports Australia (DSA) is the peak body for deaf sport in Australia and we have a national and state based sports structure. Currently, there are 12 National Deaf Sporting Organisations (NDSOs) and 4 States affiliated with DSA. Additionally, we service 9 non-affiliated sports and a couple of non-represented States. The current membership of DSA is complex due largely to a number of sports attempting to form, the NDSOs and States having affiliates and members that are independent of DSA and similarly, individual members who are often not affiliated to an NDSO or State. Historical arrangements and communication barriers have produced this complicated membership structure. As a result, we do not have accurate figures; however, we estimate that DSA has approximately 1,500 members. One of the objectives of DSA is to review its current membership structure in order to reform and produce a more streamlined pathway for deaf and hard of hearing people currently, and wanting to participate in sport. |
